Boyer and Klein Website –
Here is a spot where we can share our resources about our family histories. If you have things to add or need to contact me my email is [email protected].
The cousins on this side of the Atlantic have been talking about our families, and since I’m a retired web designer I’ve been setting up some pages for sharing pictures and other items we’ve found. It’s by no means complete but I peck away at it as I have time. Our daughter Jesse is interested in all this, so I consider the online site to be a backup and a way for she and I to share a project. We are both writing some memoir pieces, and all this is turning into a great resource.
My mother’s letters are extraordinary. Some are gritty and sad, since she had life long depression and discusses a suicide attempt in the 1940s in one letter. But some are very funny, blunt, gossipy. I was feeling a little weird about Mum’s letters because sometimes they are upsetting, but I was relieved when The US Carter cousins asked me for more about their parents. Shirley had a head injury (resulting in epilepsy for the rest of his life)in the 50s and Mum talks about that, and then later in the 70s she talks about their mother’s drinking which was a hushed up problem for years. It helped them to read my mother’s worries from those times and gave them some perspective. But also be prepared to laugh. The 1967 letters about the summer when Sylvie and I were crazy teens is priceless. I’ve realized that my mother’s story is actually one of triumph over adversity. She lived a long, rich and creative life.
